Ministries
This cross and flame is the UMW emblem. They are ancient symbols of the church. The cross and flame remind us of our purpose of growing in our understanding of and willingness to participate in the global ministries of the church.
The shape is fluid and free flowing, suggesting change and mobility. The women who came before us, serving the church at home and in other countries, were at the forefront of movement for change.

Always aware of the times, we move into the 21st century aware of the opportunities and obligations of discipleship. We are a group of Christian women with many gifts who are unified by one Spirit. We participate in God's mission in all areas of life.

"For this reason I remind you to rekindle the gift of God that is within you." II Timothy 1:6 (NRSV)

Our church has been participating in the back pack ministry for about 2 years. The Clarksburg Mission got it started in the Clarksburg area schools and it took off from there.
The teachers identify the students that are in need and send home a permission form with them. If the parents are agreeable, we send home a bag weekly. On Holidays, they try to add enough snacks to have 2 per day. The Lords Pantry puts the bags together on Thursdays and distribute them to Lumberport Middle and Lumberport Elementary. We supply about 150 bags per week.

Our church supplies the pop tarts, Lumberport Baptist church supplies pudding, Ten Mile church supplies drinks. Kathy Burr is the coordinator and she gets other items from the Mountaineer Food Bank. Some bags will have cereal bars, individual bowls of cereal, fruit cups and fresh fruit. On occasion Shop N Save donates their day old pepperoni rolls and are able use them. We provide a variety of items in the backpacks for these children.
